Home child care center deregulation bill pulled

The sponsor of a bill to deregulate most of Colorado's home child care providers pulled his legislation today. The bill would have exempted home day cares with 10 or fewer children from state oversight.

Republican state Sen. Kevin Lundberg says he was open to restricting that to even smaller providers. But the bill's title was too specific, making any major changes impossible under legislative rules.

A report last year found there are only enough licensed day care spots for a quarter of Colorado’s children, and many families can’t afford care. Lundberg says he will revisit the issue down the road.
