The Durango Herald reports the site was shut down Thursday evening. It wasn't clear if that was because of a complaint the school district filed with Twitter earlier in the day.
The account became active three weeks ago. The tweets included derogatory statements about students' sexual orientation, promiscuity and physical appearance. Other posts were about crushes and criticism of school-spirit events.
A Twitter spokesman, Nu Wexler, said he couldn't comment on individual accounts, citing privacy and security reasons. However, he said Twitter rules ban targeted abuse and posting private information.
