University of Colorado Health announced plans Wednesday to build a $100 million to $125 million hospital in Longmont that will open in late 2016 or early 2017.

Officials with the health system cited rapid growth in Longmont and Boulder County as the reason for why the hospital is needed. The facility will include 50 to 75 outpatient beds, an intensive care unit, operating rooms and an emergency department.

The project is expected to create 500 construction jobs and 200 permanent jobs. A groundbreaking is expected late this year.
