14-year-old charged in Broomfield school stabbing

Prosecutors have charged a 14-year-old boy accused of stabbing a classmate at a suburban Denver school.

District Attorney Dave Young announced Monday that the boy, whose name has not been released, is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and possession of a weapon on school grounds.

Investigators say the girl was stabbed in the back near a playground at Aspen Creek K-8 school in Broomfield and then was airlifted to a hospital. She is expected to survive.

Several students and staff members witnessed the attack, but classes continued afterward. Investigators have not said what led to the stabbing.

The boy is being held at the Adams County Juvenile Detention Center.
