CU med students help immigrants avoid the ER

A new project at the University of Colorado links medical students with immigrants in an effort to reduce trips to the emergency room for preventable ailments. The project starts with a classroom overview of what it’s like for a newcomer to navigate health care in America and learning about disorders doctors might see among immigrants. After that, students can give health advice to refugees, accompany them to doctor appointments, or take them in field trips to pharmacies. Similar efforts are underway elsewhere, including Columbia University.
