Nederland Resident Pushing For Town To Be Marijuana Sanctuary

· Jul. 1, 2015, 4:43 pm

Nederland, known as one of the most marijuana-friendly towns in Colorado, could soon be a sanctuary for all "spiritual" and medical cannabis users.

Resident Kathleen Chippi is proposing a ballot measure for this November that would prevent the town of Nederland from spending money enforcing federal drug enforcement laws applicable to the personal use of marijuana -- unless it harms others.

The Daily Camera of Boulder reports that Chippi believes Coloradans aren't really free to use marijuana because it's still against federal law.

The Boulder County District Attorney told to the paper that the initiative is a "symbolic" effort, because his office doesn't focus on use of the drug.

"I don't quite know how you can make Nederland any more of a sanctuary for medical marijuana, frankly," District Attorney Stan Garnett said.
