Six Fort Carson civilian firefighters are in Washington state to help battle wildfires.

Army officials say the Fort Carson team will be crew supervisors at the Yakima Training Center. They'll train and lead about 325 military members who will work as hand crews fighting wildfires.

The Fort Carson personnel traveled to Washington state Saturday. They're expected to be there for 30 days.

The last time a Fort Carson crew assisted with wildfire suppression was in 2013 during the Black Forest Fire in Colorado Springs.
