Aspen is now the third U.S. city running 100 percent on renewable energy. Only Burlington, Vermont, and Greensburg, Kansas, have also managed a complete switch. The Aspen Times reports the mountain community is now powered by hydro, wind, geothermal and burning gas from landfills. Signing a contract with a wholesale energy provider in Nebraska was the final step for the city to become free of fossil fuels.
