The Denver Post reports that, according to federal data released Wednesday, DIA saw a 2 percent increase in the number of passengers who boarded or connected to another flight in Denver in 2014 to a record of slightly more than 26 million. But it wasn't enough to hold off John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, which saw its 2014 figures increase about 4.8 percent to about 26.2 million.

Atlanta's Hartsfield International remains the nation's busiest airport, with more than 46.6 million passengers boarding, followed by Los Angeles International, Chicago O'Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth and JFK.

DIA is now ranked No. 6, followed by airports in San Francisco, Charlotte, N.C., Las Vegas and Phoenix.
