Northglenn Officers Justified In Shooting, DA Says

Prosecutors say two Northglenn police officers were justified when they shot and wounded a man who opened fire on them.

Adams County District Attorney Dave Young said Tuesday the officers encountered 36-year-old Rickie Pacheco Jr. after someone reported a man with a gun June 10. Pacheco is accused of firing on the officers, who fired back at him, hitting him in the leg, forearm and wrist.

Neither of the officers was injured.

Young says Pacheco told nurses he refused the officers' orders and they had every right to shoot him because he fired first.

The Denver Post reports Pacheco is being held on suspicion of first-degree aggravated assault on an officer and attempted first-degree murder of an officer.
