When a semitrailer overturned in western Colorado, it wasn't just emergency crews who responded. Ranchers on horseback rushed to the area to help round up about 80 cattle.
The Durango Herald reports that rancher Scott Cox saw the trailer driving erratically Sunday afternoon and called his ranching friends when it fell on its side.
Durango Fire Protection District members used an electric saw to carve out points on the truck's roof where the livestock could escape. The ranchers herded the cattle into a makeshift corral.
None of the animals were hurt.
Truck driver Travis Phillips told the Herald he encountered several mechanical errors on his way to Kansas.
Durango Sgt. William Sweetwood says police are investigating the mechanics of the truck and will file charges if necessary.
