Damage claims related to a spill of toxic mine water in southwest Colorado now amount to $1.3 million.

The Durango Herald reports more than 30 individuals and businesses have filed claims – but most of the requested money comes from only two property owners.

One of them wants more than $500,000 for a new water well.  Other claimants include rafting companies and whitewater guides who lost business when the contaminated Animas River was closed.
