Pueblo West Debates Whether To Distance Itself From Namesake

About 30,000 residents of Pueblo West are debating whether to form their own town or change its name, with many of them upset over being associated with the nearby city of Pueblo.

The community is run by a metropolitan district board. Metropolitan board officials say it's just a survey and not binding.

According to KOAA-TV, some residents are concerned their community is being confused with Pueblo, which they say has a high crime rate, high unemployment and problems with school tests.

Pueblo City Manager Sam Azad says Pueblo is proud of its name and reputation.

New names that have been suggested for the community include Wild Horse, Soaring Eagles, Turkey Creek and West Lake.
