Town leaders had hoped to vote on the application this Thursday. They’re pushing up against a deadline this weekend to complete their application. But there’s hope that the Environmental Protection Agency will grant a deadline extension.

A major sticking point is the boundary of the Superfund site. Silverton officials want a narrow designation that won’t brush up against town limits. The EPA is looking to broaden the boundaries to address more abandoned mines.

A public comment meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.
