Colorado Casinos Bring In $65M In Record January

Colorado’s casinos started the year off with a bang – with the best revenue for a January on record.

Casinos brought in more than $65 million last month, according to the Colorado Department of Revenue.

Casinos here are a seasonal business with revenues typically falling in the winter and rising in the summer. Yet casinos are having one of the best winters on record.

Low gas prices have helped -- the mountain towns are more than an hour’s drive from city centers. And, most importantly, the strong economy along the Front Range has added to people’s discretionary income.

This helped casinos pay about $11 million in taxes to the state in January.
