Buckley Air Force Base officials have announced plans to acquire land surrounding the base in Aurora to prevent future encroachment of development.

The Denver Post reports that officials said Wednesday they're purchasing the first surrounding property, a 124-acre area. In all, more than 1,000 acres will be acquired by the Trust for Public Land to serve as a permanent buffer zone around the base.
