Denver Activists Restart Push For Private Marijuana Clubs

Denver cannabis activists are relaunching the effort to get marijuana clubs in the city.

The group Responsible Use Denver submitted language Friday for a voter initiative to create private marijuana social clubs, and to allow pot use at special events with a permit.

Marijuana clubs would not be allowed to sell the drug, or to have a license to sell alcohol or food.

Last year backers of a similar measure collected enough signatures to put it on the ballot, but withdrew it in favor of working with the city officials on a social marijuana use policy.

Once the city has reviewed the language of this year’s initiative, supporters will need to gather 5,000 signatures to get it before voters.
