Boulder Bars Spreading Awareness Of Ash-Tree Killing Pest

Boulder County officials are working with bars and pubs to bring awareness to an ash-tree killing insect that has had devastating impacts in Boulder.

The Daily Camera reports that people going out for a beer may notice the new coasters placed under their drinks that warn them about the emerald ash borer. The invasive beetle has caused tens of millions of dollars in damage in Boulder and is expected to spread to Denver.

Brett Stadsvold, who has been leading efforts to combat the insect, says the county printed 5,000 coasters and distributed them to bars and pubs in Longmont, Lafayette and other cities.

The paper coasters tell people how to prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer and include the slogan, "Watch Your Ash!"
