Entire Police Force Of Small Mountain Town Resigns

Green Mountain Falls, a small town northwest of Colorado Springs, no longer has a police force.

The police marshal and his three volunteer reserve officers resigned last week, the Gazette reports. Just a day later, newly elected Mayor Jane Newberry was sworn into office. FOX21, citing anonymous sources, reports the department was unhappy with the new mayor.

The resignations made headlines nationally, in CNN, the Washington Post and Jezebel.

Turmoil among city staff isn't new. In 2014, local newspaper the Mountain Jackpot reported the entire public works department, "practically the entire clerk's office," and other public employees quit after an election.

The El Paso County and Teller County sheriff's offices have agreed to help with law enforcement until the issue is resolved, Newberry told the Gazette.
