Interstate 70 winds through Glenwood Canyon in western Colorado.

The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reports that the work, which is predicted to be completed in September, comes after boulders the size of small cars tumbled onto the highway along the Colorado River on Feb. 15.

The slides forced the Colorado Department of Transportation to close Interstate 70 through the canyon for a week.

While the highway is under construction this summer, CDOT plans to limit periodic traffic holds and potential full closures to Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
