Police, DPS Tell Students: Be Careful With Fake Guns

Denver Police and Denver Public Schools teamed up Tuesday to let high school students know they should be careful with fake guns.

Many look like the real thing. At a news conference at South High, students got an up-close look at a variety of fakes.

"If you were in the position of law enforcement, would you know the difference between a real gun and a fake gun?" said Michael Eaton, DPS' chief of security.

The news conference was prompted by several incidents nationwide where children have been shot by police.

The event at South High was one of several student projects in Denver to try to create a better relationship between police and youth.
