You may notice a different voice behind the music on Colorado Public Radio Classical this week as radio veteran David Ginder takes over as the host of “Colorado Spotlight.”

With over 40 years of experience in classical radio, Ginder is sharing their expansive knowledge and insight into the music with Colorado Public Radio listeners.*

“I’m so happy to bring my passion for sharing classical music to CPR,” says Ginder. “To be able to continue my life’s work in Colorado is a privilege.”

Behind the mic, Ginder takes on the challenge of making classical music accessible, inviting listeners to explore the music and experience the impact it can have.

“I don’t just play classical music,” says Ginder. “I want to be a listener’s friend. It’s my job to welcome each listener into this potentially life-changing musical genre.”

Before coming to CPR, Ginder spent nearly three decades on the airwaves at WETA in Washington, D.C., where they hosted popular music shows, interviewed high-profile classical musicians and developed a large following.

While Ginder wasn’t necessarily looking to leave D.C., they decided to make the move out West when this opportunity with Colorado Public Radio’s classical service arose.

“Colorado is a place I’ve loved for a long time,” says Ginder. “And to be able to do what I love in Colorado … that was an easy decision to make.”

On “Colorado Spotlight,” Ginder will continue the program’s legacy of highlighting the very best classical music being written, produced and performed locally.

“It’s important to feature local musicians because it shows the growth of classical music in this community right here and now,” says Ginder. “I love helping listeners tap into the local music scene and encouraging them to support it.”

In addition to Ginder taking on hosting duties for “Colorado Spotlight,” the program will have a new schedule, airing weekday mornings at 10 a.m. and again at 6 p.m.

There are a few other changes to the CPR Classical schedule, including a second broadcast of “Music Forward” Sundays at 7 p.m., as well as “Midday Mozart” airing weekdays at noon.

Keep an ear out also for special features like “The Big Idea” with Matt Weesner weeknights at 7 p.m., which offers listeners a chance to explore entire bodies of works by great composers. See the updated classical music schedule for details and other changes.
