African American competitors from around the country were the stars Monday night of the annual MLK Jr. Rodeo at the National Western Stock Show.

Since 2006, the National Western Stock Show has hosted the MLK Jr. Rodeo, coinciding with Martin Luther King Day in Denver. The stars of the show come from the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, an annual nationwide series of events for black rodeo riders. The purpose of the rodeo is also to remind spectators that African-Americans were and are an integral part of western ranching and cowboying.
