A procession honoring Nicholas Dale, a helicopter pilot who lost his life fighting the Gold Mountain fire near Ouray, will traverse the state on Monday.
Dale will be transported from Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose starting at 7 a.m. and is expected to arrive in Grand Junction and enter I-70 at 8 a.m. The procession will include a small convoy of emergency vehicles driving with steady, non-flashing overhead light beams to prevent motorist confusion on the interstate.
The convoy will then drive across the state on I-70 and arrive at Denver International Airport at noon.
Those who are interested in showing their support are encouraged to do so from highway overpasses and exit ramps. The Colorado State Patrol warns that drivers should not park or stand on the shoulder of the roadway. The convoy expects to drive through Vail overpasses at around 10:15 a.m. and Silverthorne at 10:45 a.m.
