- Colorado’s new Suicide Prevention Commission is meeting this morning for the first time. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports. The state legislature created the group to establish new efforts for prevention priorities, broaden public and private partnerships, and identify funding resources. - A new study released by the U.S. Geological Survey looks at the effects of climate change on certain species in the American Southwest. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports. The study focuses on twelve bird and reptile species in the southwest and how they’re expected to endure changes in breeding ranges and habitats.
- Colorado Springs officials will talk flash floods along Douglas Creek at a public meeting tonight. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports. The meeting is expected to provide education and updated information about increased flash flood risk due to the Waldo Canyon burn scar, including the city’s planned response to a flash flood.
- The Air Force Academy is planning a series of cuts as part of the Pentagon’s 2015 budget proposal. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports. The cuts would eliminate three percent of the Academy’s workforce and 10 academic majors at the school. Degrees in biochemistry, environmental engineering, and philosophy are among the proposed cuts. - The State Historical Fund, or SHF, has awarded nearly $9 million total in grants for preservation projects all over the state. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports. The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, the Fine Arts Center, and the Canon City Carnegie Library are among the southern Colorado structures that recently received funds.
- 250 companies have registered for Colorado’s new branding program since its launch last year, even as the logo faces a legislative challenge. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports. “Making Colorado” looks to have a unified logo for products made in the state. The logo is currently under legislative review after mixed reaction. - A landlord in Pueblo has pleased guilty to code violations in rental properties. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports. The Pueblo Police Department’s Code Compliance Unit executed the case. The 14 units held a total of 70 code violations, including problems with plumbing, pests, and fire protection systems.
- Pueblo County has released a new interactive map showing flood damage for the past year. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports. The main purpose of the map is to share information with state agencies and FEMA. Chris Markuson directs the county’s Department of Economic Development and Geographic Information Systems.
