Event Description

"Two Russian blockbusters and a treasured iconic interlude make up this sublime and sensuous program. Winner of numerous international awards, Alexander Malofeev became interested in music of Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Mahler, Rachmaninov, and Prokofiev by the time he was 7. Hear him take on Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto. Also on the program, Skryabin's 'The Poem of Ecstasy,' a massive orchestral piece bringing together poetry and music. Let this lush music overwhelm your senses – as Scriabin intended it to do. You may even see colors, as Scriabin himself did with sound."

RACHMANINOFF: Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, op. 18
WAGNER: Prelude and Liebestod, from Tristan und Isolde
SKRYABIN: The Poem of Ecstasy, op. 54

With conductor Vasily Petrenko and Alexander Malofeev, piano.
