Event Description

"This incredible program features ECO’s 2019-2020 Young Artists Solo Competition winner Jocelynn King performing the opening movement of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2. Program also features a new composition by local Colorado pianist and composer Cindi Hsu, 'Prayer for the Living.' Her musical language is at once distinctive and familiar, clear and powerful. This will be a fantastic opportunity to hear one of her orchestral works performed. The program continues with several foxtrots and rags by James Reese Europe, a ragtime and early jazz bandleader and composer. Reese Europe was a pivotal figure of the African American music scene in New York City during the early 1900s, and his music was - and still is - extraordinarily popular. Also, Mozart’s unforgettable Overture from The Marriage of Figaro and selections from Mendelssohn’s enchanting A Midsummer’s Night Dream."
