Event Description

"Celebrating Diversity: A Symphonic Journey commemorates Black History Month with what many consider as America’s true musical art form: Jazz. The GPO is excited to partner with members of UNC’s own Lab 1 Big Band to perform The Three Black Kings by one of America’s greatest composers and artists - Duke Ellington. The program will also feature the Fanfare on Amazing Grace by Adolphus Hailstork, Morton Gould’s evocative Spirituals for Orchestra, and conclude with the exceptional Afro-American Symphony by William Grant-Still. This is a sonic journey of the American musical experience."

ADOLPHUS HAILSTORK: Fanfare on “Amazing Grace”
GOULD: Spirituals for Orchestra
ELLINGTON: The Three Black Kings
