St. Martin’s Chamber Choir: A Christmas Oratorio: Herzogenberg’s The Birth of Christ

First Plymouth Congregational, 3501 S Colorado Blvd, Cherry Hills Village, 80113

Event Description

"Johannes Brahms acknowledged only one student as a protégé worthy of his legacy, and that was Heinrich von Herzogenberg (1843-1900). In 1894, at the height of his powers, Herzogenberg composed a Christmas oratorio entitled Die Geburt Christi (The Birth of Christ) in a form redolent of a Bach Passion. These twin muses – Bach and Brahms – result in a work of unique power and beauty, performed in collaboration with members of the Pro-Musica Chamber Orchestra. Preceding the oratorio will be a selection of favorite carol arrangements."
