Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a KRCC Morning Edition Host / Reporter. 

About the Position:

Based at the new Southern Colorado Public Media Center (SCPMC) in Colorado Springs, the KRCC News Host / Reporter will connect with local listeners, delivering newscasts, segues and local features. You will cover Southern Colorado in ways that reflect and represent the region’s diversity. This position will host KRCC's Morning Edition live from 6 a.m. through the 9 a.m. local newscast and spend the rest of the time reporting, to include newscast material, interviews, digital reporting, and other topics/duties as assigned. 

The new hire is expected to reside in the Colorado Springs area upon starting - this is not a remote position. This position will host Morning Edition Monday through Friday. The schedule will be from 4:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

About You:

You are a responsive, adaptable and reliable host, ignited by curiosity and interested in daily news. You have a fast metabolism for identifying stories that reflect what’s happening, as well as a desire to create enterprise stories that can get conversations going about important Southern Colorado issues. You’re excited to host Morning Edition because you have a variety of interests, see yourself as a lifelong learner, and are dedicated to providing listeners with a great, local experience first thing every weekday morning. You are able to commit to an early morning schedule as timeliness and time management are key to the role. You’re committed to diversity and inclusivity in sourcing and story choice and are able to develop a wide variety of sources from diverse communities. You’re a creative storyteller. You’re also a collaborator who likes to work with other colleagues across newsrooms on projects to better your own work. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience hosting or in roles where you have used your voice as the main medium to communicate with an audience. This could involve working on a journalistic podcast, working for a daily publication or for a newsroom, or working for other relevant broadcasts. This 3 years of experience should also include at least one year of ethical, fair and accurate professional reporting experience. 
  • Experience editing and mixing audio (preferably using Adobe Audition), and an ability to run a studio shift solo without the support of a board operator.
  • A demonstrated ability to generate great story ideas that speak to varied, real, human experiences and an ability to earn trust and report on issues impacting Southern Colorado communities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. This should include a strong ability to communicate in a conversational style when hosting. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively, meet deadlines, switch between tasks as necessary and work in a fast-paced, digital and broadcast environment. 
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required as this role needs access to reliable transportation to respond with urgency to news events.
  • Ability to work; Mon - Fri 4:30 am - 1:30 p.m. 

Education Equivalency:

  • High School or GED degree required. Relevant Associates or Bachelors degree may replace some of the years of experience required.
