Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking an Morning Editor.

About the Position:

The Morning Editor is a key editor role that ensures CPR’s newsroom starts each day strong, with the right news on the right platforms. Each morning, you’ll help set the newsroom’s agenda by coordinating coverage across teams, assigning and editing stories, and keeping colleagues informed of breaking developments. You’ll guide coverage in a digital-first, audience-focused way — shaping both digital and on-air content. As the first point of editorial leadership each day, you’ll ensure homepages and newscasts are current, timely, and reflect the biggest news of the day — and hand off a clear plan to the Daily Team Editor. The rest of your day will involve editing across platforms, supporting special projects and long-term coverage, and collaborating with newsroom teams to maintain CPR’s standards of accuracy, timeliness and impact.

You are expected to reside in the greater Denver metro area upon starting — this is not a remote position. This position will work from our downtown newsroom 4 days a week with 1 day remote. Please note the schedule for this role is 7 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday.

About You:

You’re an editor who leads with collaboration, clarity, and care for your colleagues. You bring strong news judgment and a commitment to serving audiences in a multimedia, digital-first environment. You stay steady under pressure, making timely editorial decisions while keeping the team focused and supported during breaking news.

You have strong editing and writing skills for both broadcast and digital, and you enjoy coaching reporters at all levels. You are organized, transparent in your communication, and proactive in keeping colleagues across the newsroom informed.

You’re curious, adaptable, and approach challenges with openness and a commitment to growth. You value inclusivity, seek out diverse perspectives, and believe CPR’s journalism should reflect the full breadth of the communities we serve.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years experience editing and producing audio and digital news with a demonstrated ability to write and edit clearly for both broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Strong editorial judgment and a thorough understanding of journalistic ethics.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with others to deliver timely news in a daily news environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including clear, follow-through that keeps teams informed and aligned.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced daily news environment.
  • Experience with content management systems and newsroom production tools (audio editing software such as Adobe Audition and automation platforms such as Pardot).

Education Equivalency:

  • A fully relatable bachelor’s or master’s degree may replace some of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role.

Even if you don’t meet every qualification listed, we’re interested in candidates who can bring unique skills, perspectives, and experiences to the role. At Colorado Public Radio, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, equitable and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role, but your past experience doesn't perfectly align with every qualification in the job posting, we encourage you to apply as you may be the right candidate for this or other roles with us.

Benefits:

Colorado Public Radio is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package that reflects our culture of caring.
