Rock Slide Closes Co. 133 Near Paonia, Probably Until The Weekend

The Colorado Department of Transportation says a state highway closed by a rock slide north of Paonia probably won't reopen until the weekend.

The rock slide left over 100 tons of debris on Colorado 133 at the north end of Paonia Reservoir. CDOT says it caused extensive damage to the road and a concrete barrier but no vehicles were hit.

Crews were working Thursday to determine the extent of rock scaling that will be needed to prevent future slides and are hoping to possibly have the road open on Saturday.

In the meantime, traffic is being diverted at the Collbran turnoff and at Kebler Pass.
