A new investigation into assisted living facilities finds many cases in which families say loved-ones were mistreated, even died, while under care. The investigation focuses on Emeritus, the country’s largest assisted living company. It has facilities across the country, including eight in this state. The report is from ProPublica, and part of it profiles a Colorado family who lost a loved one. A.C. Thompson is the lead reporter on the series. Emeritus offered its response to the investigation, saying the company has a well-trained staff and has always put its residents before profits.
