Jared Polis is running for governor. And if you didn’t know who he was, watch out. The Democrat has 3,352 commercials running through next month.

Polis, who’s personally given his campaign millions, is spending far more than any other candidate for governor so far, according to CPR News’ review of 150 broadcast TV contracts filed with the FCC. The congressman has reserved $1.9 million in ads that started running on April 14.

The next closest candidate is Republican Victor Mitchell, who has loaned his campaign millions. He’s spent $534,160 for 1,454 TV ads that are about evenly distributed between the Denver, Colorado Springs, and Grand Junction markets. Mitchell is the only candidate to buy ads in Grand Junction.Chart: Governor's Race TV Ad Buys May 2018

The other GOP challengers, Doug Robinson and Walker Stapleton has purchased less than $84,000 total in ads through their PACs.

Frontier Fairness, a PAC supporting Mike Johnston, has purchased $310,715 so far in ad time in Denver and Colorado Springs.

Donna Lynne and Cary Kennedy are starting to purchase TV ads now, but are still under contract for half the spending of fellow Democrat Johnston, and less than 1/10th of the commercials that Polis has scheduled.
