A Rare Film Rediscovered in a Denver Vault

Listen Now

Colorado has plenty of adventurers. But back in the 1920s there was one group that decided to have an adventure half way around the world. The Colorado African Expedition completed a 14-thousand mile journey to Africa and they filmed the entire trip. That footage, including a scene from Denver’s Brown Palace Hotel got turned into a movie called “Africa Speaks." It was largely forgotten until it was recently discovered hidden in the vault at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Howie Movshovitz - our film critic - helped find it.

You can watch a 50 minute version of the 1930 classic Africa Speaks here.
