Thanksgiving weekend is the unofficial start of ski season. We present a special Colorado Matters about the history of skiing & snowboarding, and about some of the sports' pioneers. Host Ryan Warner speaks with 92-year-old cold weather clothier Klaus Obermeyer, of Aspen. Decades ago, he fashioned his first ski jacket from a down comforter. Today, Sport Obermeyer is a multi-million dollar apparel company. Then, Ryan talks to Trent Bush, who put together the snowboarding exhibit at the National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame & Museum in Vail. You might be surprised to learn that snowboarding's roots date back to the 1930's. Finally, Ryan speaks with author Peter Bronski, whose book "Powder Ghost Towns," guides backcountry skiers to defunct ski areas where there are still adventures to be had.
