Mass shootings have become commonplace -- and so have problems distributing the money that pours in for victims. That was true following the Aurora theater shooting in 2012. Now, one nonprofit, The National Center for Victims of Crime, based in Washington, D.C., aims to be a clearinghouse for donations for every mass tragedy. The idea is to avoid repeating painful mistakes seen in many past efforts.

Executive Director Mai Fernandez and attorney Ken Feinberg, who's advising Fernandez, spoke with Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner. Feinberg was appointed by Gov. John Hickenlooper to manage the Aurora victims fund after it drew criticism. He did similar work after 9/11 and the Virginia Tech shooting.
