After weeks of debate, Boulder City Council will again take up a proposal that limits the right to purchase and own certain firearms. Boulder Daily Camera reporter Alex Burness tells Colorado Matters the proposed law bars most people from buying assault-style firearms, and if they already own them, they'd have to register with the city unless they qualify for an exemption. The proposal also bans high-capacity magazines and so-called "bump stocks" that make semi-automatic weapons more like automatic weapons.
Burness explains that a competing proposal at the city council would raise the age to 21 to buy or possess such weapons, and require additional safety classes and permitting.
