The Warrior Resource Center on Main Street in Montrose serves as a hub for veteran activities and a very visible reminder of the Welcome Home Montrose program.

Five years ago, Montrose silversmith Melanie Kline decided she wanted to turn her community into one of the most welcoming places for veterans in the country, so she started an organization called Welcome Home Montrose and went to work tearing down barriers for veterans struggling to return to civilian life.

This unique non-profit offers veterans everything from peer support and help finding jobs to outdoor adventures and business discounts. Kline recently retired from the organization she started, but it continues as a force in the Montrose community as well as in other towns that hope to recreate it.

Kline spoke with Ryan Warner about her work.
