The Western Slope’s largest highway construction project in 25 years is underway in downtown Glenwood Springs. When the $125.6 million project is completed in 2018, this popular tourist town will have a sweeping downtown exit from Interstate 70 and new pedestrian and vehicle bridges over the Colorado River.

In the meantime, the project is going to be tying up traffic. As many as 28,000 vehicles cross the Grand Avenue bridge every day in and out of downtown Glenwood Springs and to and from Highway 82. The construction project will result in lane closures, three months of total bridge closure and periodic I-70 shutdowns and detours. The Colorado Department of Transportation is taking unusual steps to lessen impacts for Roaring Fork Valley residents as well as for tourists.
