Calatrava Designs for DIA

Listen Now

Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava has been called the Poet of Glass and Steel. His train stations, museums, and bridges are all over the world. He designed the transportation hub now under construction at the site of the World Trade Center in New York. And now Calatrava has designed a train station, hotel and bridge for Denver International Airport. The hotel and train station are connected; hotel above, commuter trains to and from downtown below. The wings of the stark white hotel evoke the wings of a large bird. It’ll sit at the south end of the terminal, with its signature white tented roof. The bridge is separate and will bring commuter rail over Peña Boulevard. We sat down with Calatrava at a hotel downtown, where he unveiled the plans late last week. Also joining CPR's Ryan Warner is Kim Day, who’s the head of the airport.
