This story originally aired April 6, 2016. Hundreds of historical figures have helped shape the Centennial state. Names like Pike, Long and Routt are well known as icons in Colorado's pioneering history. But there are other, less well-known names like Florence Sabin, Casimiro Barela, the Bent Brothers and Chief Niwot. Author Phyllis Perry has long been fascinated with the stories of Colorado's historical figures. Her new book is called "Colorado Vanguards: Historic Trailblazers and Their Local Legacies." She spoke with Colorado Matters Host Nathan Heffel.
