A modern-day Colorado cowboy--one who earned the nickname “the eco-cowboy” for his pioneering views on the environment--is the subject of a new documentary. That cowboy is Kirk Hanna, who fought hard to protect his family’s historic ranch from development. He committed suicide in 1998 after several years' struggle trying to save his property.
Kirk Hanna worked to build bridges between ranchers and environmentalists, who were at odds. The ranch is still going strong despite fierce pressure from developers. The film “Hanna Ranch” premiers this week at the Starz Denver Film Festival. Ryan Warner speaks with director Mitch Dickman and Kirk’s wife Ann Hanna.
