Groupon Isn’t Always A Good Deal For Restaurants

Daily deal websites like Groupon are all the rage. The Chicago-based company has spawned hordes of copycats across the country. The basic concept is that Groupon negotiates with businesses for big discounts on food, hotel rooms and sporting events -- sometimes up to 90 percent off. In return, businesses get an influx of new customers. It’s billed as win-win. But industry insider Jeff Marlow has seen the hardship these deals place on small restaurants. Marlow is director of training for Restaurant Solutions, an Englewood company that provides administrative support for both big and small eateries. He joins Ryan Warner.
