“Just Like Us” is the true story of four girls, all friends, whose parents brought them to the United States from Mexico. Each of the families ends up in Denver, and two of the girls are legally in the U.S., but two are not. The story started as a book by journalist Helen Thorpe, who’s also Colorado’s first lady, but now separated from Governor John Hickenlooper. The stage version of “Just Like Us” runs through November 3rd at the Denver Center Theater Company. Ryan Warner talks with Thorpe and playwright Karen Zacarias.
