Her brother Taylor Gold finished a disappointing eighth in the semifinals of the men's halfpipe, and didn't make the finals.
Before them, Aspen's Jeremy Abbott fell in the team figure skating competition. And Nordic combined skiers (and brothers from Steamboat Springs) Bryan and Taylor Fletcher didn't medal in their first chance on Feb. 12.
Fortunately the brothers and teammate Todd Lodwick, also from Steamboat Springs, will get two more chances next week. And theirs are not the only Colorado stories for viewers back home to follow. Biathlete Lanny Barnes from Durango takes the Olympic stage Feb. 14 in the individual competition. She became famous in January when her sister gave up her Olympic spot so that Lanny could compete.
Next week, three Coloradans compete in ski halfpipe, one of the new Olympic events debuting in Sochi.
Joel Reichenberger, who is covering the games for the Steamboat Pilot & Today newspaper, expects these hometown athletes will bounce back. Or at least, Reichenberger writes, perhaps they'll remember how happy they were to just make the team a few weeks ago.
