Republicans will soon take control of the U.S. House of Representatives. The GOP’s gains in the last election include two seats here in Colorado. One of the new faces is congressman-elect Cory Gardner. He won in the 4th district, which includes Ft. Collins, Greeley, and the eastern plains. Democratic congressman Ed Perlmutter held onto his seat. He’s from the 7th district, which encompasses Denver suburbs like Lakewood and Aurora. We called them up, and evidently, it was the first time they’d spoken to each other since the election.
Ed Perlmutter: “Corey, congratulations.”
Corey Gardner: “Hey, thank you congressman, congratulations to you, too.”
We talk with Perlmutter and Gardner about whether the two parties can work together, about Republicans’ desire to repeal the new health care law, and about the struggle to find an affordable apartment when you land a job in Washington, DC.
