In December of 2018, a man with paranoid schizophrenia was shot and killed by police in Rangely, Colorado. It was the first police-related death in the town since 1981. After months of reporting, Susan Greene from the Colorado Independent and Niki Turner from The Rio Blanco Herald Times found there was much more to this story. They published a two-part series that looked at the shooting, mental health training for police in Rangely, and the lives of those impacted by the man's death.
