This week, Coloradans have seen haunting images of homes burning to the ground near Colorado Springs. They're also hauntingly familiar. About this time a year ago, the Waldo Canyon fire raged in the same region. When this happens, questions resurface about why people continue moving into fire-prone areas. Environmental policy expert Gregory Simon has some answers. He’s at CU-Denver and he says the most obvious answer is that residents are attracted to the beauty of the forest. But, he tells Ryan Warner, taxes and other public policies encourage growth in these wildland/urban areas.
