up for grabs in Colorado over the past few days. And somewhat unsurprisingly, Cruz's main opponent, Donald Trump, was not pleased.

How is it possible that the people of the great State of Colorado never got to vote in the Republican Primary? Great anger - totally unfair!

The people of Colorado had their vote taken away from them by the phony politicians. Biggest story in politics. This will not be allowed!

Trump supporters are organizing a protest of the Colorado GOP headquarters this coming Friday.

Republican leaders decided last year to cancel a straw poll at this year's caucus. That allows its delegates to vote how they please at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July.

Cruz's campaign ran an aggressive ground game in the state to recruit delegates who would back the senator in Cleveland. Cruz fans greatly outnumbered supporters of Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at the state convention in Colorado Springs over the weekend.

RNC Chairman Reince Preibus pushed back early Monday on Trump's complaints, as Politico reports:

Priebus said that while most states have primaries or caucuses, a few states like Colorado have convention systems, “and that’s perfectly OK,” he told conservative radio host Mike Gallagher.

This may have been the last time state Republicans will use such a system. Party officials -- and Gov. John Hickenlooper and other Democrats -- have said they want to switch to a primary system.
